Blu-ray

Blu-ray is the latest generation of optical disc format using the same 120mm form factor as CD and DVD. BD is designed for the delivery of high-definition video to the consumer marketplace, and for the delivery of high-density data storage to the commercial marketplace.  Storage capacities of Blu-ray media started at 25GB per disc (single-layer) with 50GB per disc (dual-layer) now readily available. The next generation is 100GB per disc again on a single-sided medium.

CD/DVD

Compact Disc / Digital Versatile Disc, originally developed to deliver audio and video content for home entertainment, has become widely used as an archive medium due to its capacity, cost, versatility, and transportability. DVD offers current capacities of 4.7GB single-sided discs and 9.4GB  dual-sided discs. DVD libraries configured with the current generation of Multi-Function DVD Drives offer capacities ranging from 1TB to over 30TB in a single library.

MO (Magneto Optical)

MO has been a widely-used archive medium since its initial introduction in 1988. Since then it has progressed through five generations with capacity increases from 650MB orignally to 9.1GB in 2001. MO media has been used across industries demanding long-term, secure, reliable storage. Optical libraries configured with the latest generation of MO drives offer capacities that range from 220GB to 5.8TB in a single library.

UDO (Ultra Density Optical)

UDO2 os the latest generation of 5¼” (130mm) Optical media and provides a capacity of 60GB per platter. UDO2 provides true Write-Once (WORM) archiving that will meet data archive and retention requirements for all regulatory agencies. Optical libraries configured with this generation of UDO drives offer capacities that range from 1.4TB to 38TB in a single library.
